Roadside Station Kadena Observation Deck – Tourist facility overlooking Kadena Air Base

沖縄県嘉手納町に位置する道の駅かでなは、観光客にとって必見のスポットです。

The most notable of these is the observation deck that offers a panoramic view of Kadena Air Base.

Here, visitors can experience the vast grounds of Kadena Air Base, one of the largest U.S. military bases in the world, as well as fighter jet takeoffs and landings up close, providing a powerful view that cannot be seen in everyday life.

Newly renovated observation deck

道の駅かでなの展望所は、2022年4月に新棟としてオープンしました。

Compared to the old building, the observation deck has a design that is more towards the base, allowing visitors to enjoy an even more realistic view of the base.

The view from the observation deck is more dynamic, allowing visitors to feel more realistic scenes of aircraft takeoffs and landings and the movement of the runway.

From the observation deck on the fourth floor of Michi no Eki Kadena, you can see the entire Kadena Air Base.

展望所に立つと、眼前に広がる広大な滑走路(全長3,689m)や、航空機が目の前で上昇する光景に圧倒されます。

In particular, being able to see the moment when fighter planes and transport planes take off from the base is an experience that can only be had at Michi no Eki Kadena.

ただし、離発着の時間は一切公表されておらず、飛行機が毎日飛ぶとは限らないため、いつ飛行機が飛ぶのかはわからず、トップシークレットとなっています。

These unknown elements also provide a special experience for visitors.

学習展示室の面積は約162平方メートルに及び、展示は「ぼくの町には基地がある」をキーワードに、嘉手納町と米軍基地の関係を多角的に伝える構成となっています。この展示室は、修学旅行生や観光客向けの平和学習の場であると同時に、地元の人々や子どもたちが地域の歴史や現状を学ぶ場としても機能しています。
